Intercom alternatives: Fin, switch, or layer

Most teams searching Intercom alternatives are deciding what to do about Fin, not which inbox to migrate to. Keep Fin on the desk you run. Leave Intercom if the desk itself is the problem. Or add a layer that finishes the record where you already work. Sainapse is that third path, and it is not right for every queue.

Updated September 2026
Who each fits

Three paths, three different buyers.

Fin is Intercom's AI agent. It can sit on Intercom, or on a helpdesk you already run, and Intercom publishes the outcome price. That is why it shows up in an alternatives search: a team can cost it without a discovery call, and can start a trial.

A helpdesk switch is the path for teams whose complaint is Intercom the product. Seats, the inbox, the channels, the contract. The AI on the next desk will look familiar, because desks now ship their own. Move if you want a different system of record. Do not move only to obtain a model.

A layer is the path when the desk is staying and the work does not end in the conversation. The ticket, and the system the ticket is about, have to show what was done. Fin's own page says it can update external systems. That claim is real, and it is not the same thing as being the system of record your team already works in.

Sainapse is the layer in the third column. Shortlist it when the desk should stay and you want a platform fee with included AI-handled tickets, not a per-outcome meter. Skip it when you want Fin's trial this quarter and the work is the conversation Fin already prices.

The three paths, side by side.

Read this as three legitimate answers, not a scoreboard. The column that fits is the one whose project you are willing to run.

Fit

When Fin is the better fit

Fin is the better buy when you want a number before a sales call. The published rate is $0.99 per outcome, with a 50-outcome monthly minimum and a 14-day trial. Few products in this search let finance multiply a rate by volume that way.

Read the outcome list before you multiply. Resolutions, procedure handoffs, disqualifications, and self-serve routing are $0.99. A qualification is $9.99. A conversation simply passed to your team, with no outcome, is not charged. The definition is the price.

Fin is also the better buy when the work is a customer conversation on a helpdesk Fin already sits on, and you want that vendor's agent rather than a second one. If Intercom is the desk you intend to keep, turning Fin on is the smallest project of the three.

Leave Intercom when Intercom is the problem. A layer will not fix a contract, an inbox, or a channel mix you have decided to exit. That search is a helpdesk search, and it should be run as one.

Sainapse fits when the desk stays and the job is the record, under a cap you set. That is not a reason to rip Intercom out, and not a claim that Fin cannot act in connected systems. Fin says it can.

What Sainapse runs in production

Named

Ford, four-plus years live

300+ specialists, 250K+ tickets a year, embedded natively in ServiceNow. 95% copilot accept rate. Resolutions applied by engineers without edits. ~100% triage and routing accuracy. Hand-offs per resolved ticket 4 to 1.2.

Anonymized

An enterprise SaaS support desk

400+ specialists, 1.2M+ tickets a year, 12 months live inside the helpdesk. Customer-initiated touchpoints per resolved ticket 4 to 1.2. CSAT +35%, concurrent with the Sainapse period, as correlation, not a causal claim.

Method

How these numbers are measured

Accept rate is the service desk's own accept and reject telemetry, not a survey. Hand-off counts exclude automated steps. Satisfaction movement is published as correlation because that is what the readout is.

Common questions

Fin publishes $0.99 per outcome, with a 50-outcome monthly minimum. Resolutions, procedure handoffs, disqualifications, and self-serve routing are that rate. A qualification is $9.99. Passing a conversation to your team with no outcome is not charged. With the Intercom desk, add $29 per seat per month. There is a 14-day trial. Those figures were read on 29 September 2026.

Sometimes. If the inbox, the seats, or the contract are why you are looking, you are shopping for a helpdesk, and the next desk will bring its own AI. If the desk is fine and Fin is the question, you do not need to move the queue to change the agent. Those are different projects, with different owners.

When you want a published outcome price and a trial, and the work is the customer conversation on a helpdesk Fin already supports. It is also the smaller project if you are staying on Intercom. Read which events count as outcomes before you model the bill. The list is not one rate for every event.

When the desk stays and the job is the record, not only the reply. Sainapse prices a platform fee with included AI-handled tickets and $0.50 per extra AI-handled ticket on Starter and Growth, under a cap you set. Enterprise commits capacity instead of that overage. That meter is different from $0.99 per outcome. It is not automatically cheaper. Model both on your mix.

Yes. They answer different questions. Fin can be the conversation, including on a helpdesk other than Intercom. A layer finishes work inside the desk you already run. A team can want Fin's trial and still be the wrong fit for a layer, or the reverse. Use the table to name which project you are in.
